Parsons, Carson headline inactives in Cowboys-Steelers Week 5 tilt, rookie WR to debut
The Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers are careening towards their 31st matchup in franchise history. The last official pre-game acts? Naming of the inactives. Teams have 53-man rosters and can elevate two players from the practice squad each week. However they are only allowed to dress a certain amount and allow them onto the field in a game. That number is 47, but it has caveats. If a team is dressing at least nine offensive linemen, they can dress 48 players. A team can also dress an emergency third quarterback, who can play in case the top two signal callers are injured. That leaves six players to be named inactive. How to Watch, Stream Listen to Cowboys-Steelers on SNF For Dallas, the headline is Micah Parsons, dealing with a high ankle sprain. Parsons didn’t practice all week and it was clear early he was going to miss the game. Not mentioned are DE DeMarcus Lawrence and WR Brandin Cooks, who were moved to IR earlier in the week. RB Deuce Vaughn LB Micah Parsons CB Caelen Carson DE KJ Henry OT Matt Waletzko TE John Stephens Jr. Trey Lance (emergency QB) Notable is that Dallas is activating WR Ryan Flournoy and also that starting corner Caelen Carson is going to miss his second consecutive contest. He’s been starting opposite Trevon Diggs since Daron Bland has spent the first third of the season on IR after foot surgery. As for the Steelers, they will also be without some key pieces, with edge LB Alex Highsmith out along with RBs Jaylen Warren and Cardarrelle Patterson.

Here’s why Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb drew 2 different fines from NFL front office this week
Here’s why Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb drew 2 different fines from NFL front office this week Todd Brock Through the first four weeks of the NFL season, exactly 111 plays have resulted in a monetary fine for a player in violation of some infraction. Almost three percent of them have involved CeeDee Lamb. The Cowboys wide receiver was fined for two separate plays in the team’s Week 4 win over the New York Giants, it was announced Saturday. Combined, the fines will dock Lamb $25,324, just a week after an unnecessary roughness call (that was not considered a penalty during the Week 3 loss to Baltimore) cost him $22,511. The first incident from last Thursday’s 20-15 win to draw the league’s ire came after a first-quarter catch by Lamb that gained ten yards. After being tackled at the Giants’ 30, Lamb motioned for a first down with a double-handed gesture that mimicked shooting guns. The league office called it unsportsmanlike conduct involving a violent gesture and imposed a fine of $14,069. In the second quarter, Lamb caught a Dak Prescott pass of about 17 yards and then raced another 38 for a touchdown. On his way to the end zone, Lamb turned to stare down New York cornerback Deonte Banks and then flipped the ball toward him once he had scored. That was also deemed unsportsmanlike conduct- taunting, this time- and will cost Lamb $11,255. As in Week 3, neither moment drew a flag from officials in the moment. [affiliatewidget_smgtolocal] The NFL seems to be making a concerted effort to crack down on the recent trend of players pantomiming shooting guns; five players across the league were fined for it in Week 4 and hit with fines totaling nearly $60,000. Any violations resulting in a fine may be appealed by players, but the decisions are then binding. Collected fines are donated to the Professional Athletes Foundation to support NFL legends in need as well as the NFL Foundation to support the health, safety, and wellness of players across all levels of the sport. Lamb has single-handedly contributed over $47,000 so far this season. Read all the best Cowboys coverage at the Austin American-Statesman and Cowboys Wire.
Cowboys vs. Steelers: 3 bold predictions for Sunday’s matchup
Andrew Dieb-Imagn Images Here are our bold predictions for Sunday’s game. After a ten-day layoff, the Dallas Cowboys are back in action on Sunday night as they face off against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Before the two teams square off in a pivotal matchup, here are three bold predictions for Sunday’s contest. Robert Deutsch-Imagn Images 1) Jalen Tolbert surpasses 100 yards in a game for the first time With Brandin Cooks sidelined on IR, the Cowboys will need one of their young receivers to step up alongside CeeDee Lamb. If that does happen, there’s a good chance the guy to do just that will be Jalen Tolbert. The 25-year-old has gotten off to the best start of his career, recording 13 catches for 160 yards, eight first-down receptions, and one touchdown. Tolbert is already close to surpassing his 2023 season totals and the Cowboys are just four games into the season. The Steelers will likely come into this matchup with the mindset that they cannot let CeeDee Lamb beat them. If Pittsburgh devotes most of its attention to Lamb, it will open up opportunities for Dallas’ other wideouts. Jalen Tolbert takes advantage of the increased workload and makes the most of his opportunity. The former third-round pick leads the team in receiving yards, recording the first 100-yard game of his NFL career. Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports 2) Trevon Diggs and Jourdan Lewis both record interceptions Four games into the season Steelers quarterback Justin Fields has looked much better than he did in Chicago. Fields is fourth in the NFL in CPOE (5.8), has completed 70% of his passes, and has turned the ball over through the air just one time. Pittsburgh has been able to lean on their run game, recording 514 rushing yards in their first four outings, making things a bit easier for Fields. This week, the Cowboys will employ the same defensive strategy they did in Week 4, making stopping the run their number one priority. Dallas held the Giants to just 26 rushing yards and looked like a completely different run defense than their last two games. Missing DeMarcus Lawrence and Micah Parsons will hurt Dallas’ run defense, but they still load up against the run and make the Steelers beat them through the air. If the Cowboys can make Justin Fields throw the ball 25 or more times they should be able to register some takeaways. In his NFL career, Fields has thrown 25 or more passes in a game 20 times, in those 20 contests he has 19 interceptions. This week Fields will surpass that mark and record his first multi-interception game of the season. Dallas’ two best defensive backs, Trevon Diggs and Jourdan Lewis, both record interceptions stepping up in a big way to help a depleted Dallas defense. Andrew Dieb-Imagn Images 3) Brandon Aubrey is the hero, converting a game-winning field goal If there’s one thing the Cowboys should feel good about four games into the season it’s the performance of Brandon Aubrey. The All-Pro kicker has made 12 of his 13 field goal attempts on the season, including six of seven from 50+ yards. This week, he will continue his brilliance, making his biggest kick of the season. Aubrey nails a game-winning 56-yard field goal as time expires, giving the Cowboys a 23-20 victory.
Cowboys at Steelers: How to watch, game time, TV schedule, team roster, odds
Photo by Emilee Chinn/Getty Images Here is all of the information you need on how to watch this week’s Dallas Cowboys game. The Dallas Cowboys will travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers on Sunday Night Football. Dallas comes into the game with a 2-2 record and four key players unavailable. Micah Parsons, DeMarcus Lawrence, Brandin Cooks join DaRon Bland as starters who will not play on Sunday. That leaves the defense really thin along the line, and takes away WR2 for the offense. CeeDee Lamb and Jake Ferguson will have more of the load on them. The Steelers are going with Justin Fields at quarterback, and dual-threat QB ability is something that always seems to bedevil the Cowboys defense. The Steelers don’t have a lot of offensive weapons outside of George Pickens, but their defense is stout. T.J. Watt can wreck a game all by himself. Here is the info for the game. Cowboys Rooting Guide, Predictions for NFL Week 5: These 7 teams can help
The Dallas Cowboys have injury issues. After playing on a short week in Week 4, the normal nicks and bruises were replaced by serious concerns that are not the heal-quickly variety. Dallas has already placed DE DeMarcus Lawrence on IR with a Lisfranc foot injury, WR Brandin Cooks appears on his way with a knee infection suffered when going to get care postgame in New York, and Micah Parsons was ruled out for their trip to Pittsburgh. Sitting with a 2-2 record, the team is already looking up at several teams in the standings and power rankings, teams that have just as much talent as Dallas when everyone is healthy. It’s not too soon to begin rooting for them to lose. But what happens when there’s a matchup between multiple teams that are in the way? That’s what the Rooting Guide is for. Week 4 Prediction Results: 8-7
Denver Broncos set to honor Super Bowl they lost to Dallas Cowboys this weekend
The Denver Broncos are choosing to honor losing the Super Bowl to the Dallas Cowboys this weekend. Different teams celebrate different thing in sports. It happens. Consider that the Indianapolis Colts became a meme once upon a time for having a banner to display that they appeared in the 2014 AFC Championship Game. I had to word it that way, in saying “appeared in”, because they lost. This is why the banner became a meme. Not every team has the level of history that the Dallas Cowboys do (right now history is all the Cowboys have to be clear) so you have to get creative sometimes; however, a team like the Denver Broncos certainly has enough to comb through for various things. It was announced recently that the Broncos will be wearing their throwback uniforms this week. That is a good decision! These uniforms (the Orange Crush days) are glorious and deserve to be seen as often as they can be. What is weird is how the Broncos are choosing to frame the wearing of them. You would think they would call them “throwbacks” or something along those lines, but instead they are going with “Super Bowl” related verbiage and celebrating the season in which they reached the game’s ultimate stage for the first time. Denver will debut its throwback uniforms Sunday, a tribute to the 1977 season in which the Broncos advanced to the Super Bowl for the first time in franchise history. pic.twitter.com/hx8O3YQ6Ba — Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) October 3, 2024 For those unaware, this is true information. The Denver Broncos 100% reached the Super Bowl, Super Bowl XII, following the 1977 season. No lies told. The weird thing about this is they lost that game. Soundly. Who did they lose it to you ask? That would be the Dallas Cowboys, of course. Pro Football Reference So in a weird sort of way the Broncos are actually choosing to honor that year’s Super Bowl winners with their uniform choice this season. Good for them! Congratulations to the 1977 Dallas Cowboys on getting the pomp and circumstance that they deserve.
