Week 5 made things a little more interesting in the NFC East. The leading Eagles finally lost while Washington and Dallas both won on the road, tightening things up as we move deeper into the season.
We said last week that Philly didn’t feel like a 17-0 team. Well, they didn’t even make it to 5-0. Despite taking a 17-3 lead into the fourth quarter against the Broncos, the Eagles collapsed at home and allowed 18 unanswered points for the loss. With WR A.J. Brown’s reported frustration over the offense now, we’ll see if the defending champs can right the ship or if this is the beginning of bigger issues.
Washington celebrated Jayden Daniels’ return with an impressive 27-10 road victory over the previously 3-1 Chargers. Rookie RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt posted new highs with 111 rushing yards and two touchdowns. The Commanders’ big win narrowed the gap with Philadelphia and kept them ahead of Dallas in the division.
The Giants gave Kellen Moore and the Saints their first win of 2025 in a road loss. QB Jaxson Dart had three turnovers as New York unsurprisingly struggled without injured WR Malik Nabers.
Here are the NFC East standings after Week 4:
- Philadelphia Eagles 4-1 (1-0 in division, 3-0 vs NFC)
- Washington Commanders 3-2 (1-0, 1-2)
- Dallas Cowboys 2-2-1 (1-1, 1-2-1)
- New York Giants 1-4 (0-2, 0-3)
Commanders and Cowboys fans will be united in their support of the Giants this week, as they host the Eagles on Thursday night. New York is 1-7 against Philly over the last four seasons, and this probably isn’t the year to break that cycle. But maybe the short week, plus whatever internal issues might be brewing with the Eagles, will help New York get the upset.
Meanwhile, Washington hosts the Bears on Monday night. Chicago is coming off a very early bye week, and having won two straight before the break. The Commanders still have to prove that they can string together wins, having alternated between victory and defeat for the first five weeks. The Bears won’t be favored this week, but there’s a solid chance that they could knock Washington back down again.
