A few roster tweaks could help the overall production of the Cowboys.
Changes are coming for the Dallas Cowboys after their Thursday night victory in Week 4 over the New York Giants. Some of the changes will be out of necessity with injuries to both Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence, but there are other changes that could be made to help the overall team become better and more productive moving forward.
Today we’re going to take a look at a few roster tweaks the Dallas Cowboys should make to boost the production at a few positions moving forward. Some of these changes are simply confirming recent upgrades, while others are just no-brainers considering the way things have played out so far this season.
RB Rico Dowdle
The running back-by-committee experiment needs to come to an end for the Dallas Cowboys. Rico Dowdle has clearly proven he’s Dallas’ best RB through the first four weeks of the season and deserves to be the full-time lead-dog starter moving forward. He’s currently playing 44.61% of the offensive snaps right now, but that number should probably increase closer to 60% with the other 40% split between Ezekiel Elliott, Deuce Vaughn, and Hunter Luepke. Dowdle is no doubt their best option to be more productive in the running game.
LB DeMarvion Overshown
DeMarvion Overshown has been a breath of fresh air for a struggling Cowboys defense this year. He is arguably turned himself into one of the Cowboys best defenders through the first four weeks of the 2024 season, but for whatever reason hasn’t been promoted to a full-time starter as of yet. He’s currently playing 63.67% of the team’s defensive snaps, second only to Eric Kendricks (89.14%). But, considering how well he’s been playing as both a run and pass defender, he should be promoted into a full-time role.
S Juanyeh Thomas
Juanyeh Thomas has only played 4.49% of the Dallas Cowboys defensive snaps this year, but it may be time to push him into a full-time starting role considering neither Donovan Wilson (97.38%) or Malik Hooker (95.51%) haven’t been playing well so far this season. In fact, both are among some of the worst graded safeties in the league right now according to Pro Football Focus (PFF). Thomas may not be any better, but he has proven the past he’s a starting caliber player who is always around the ball in both the run and passing game.
