Sunday’s game results work vs Cowboys’ draft interests in worst way – K.D. Drummond, Cowboys Wire
Dallas isn’t getting any help.
Sunday, however, didn’t work out well for the Cowboys. Dallas’ 7-8-1 record is likely going to reach 8-8-1 after hey play the New York Giants in Week 18. The Giants have lost nine in a row entering their Week 17 matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders, with the two teams playing for the No. 1 overall selection.
By virtue of their tie, the Cowboys will draft after any team that has the same number as victories as they do, so they’d love for every team that could end up with 9 wins or more to do that.
Three teams were in play during Sunday’s early games with a legit path to nine wins, but all three teams lost.
The Indianapolis Colts entered the weekend 8-7 and hosted the Jackssonville Jaguars. They played tough, but let a 17-14 lead late in the third quarter end up a 23-17 loss after Philip Rivers tossed an interception in the fourth quarter.
The Colts can still get to nine wins if they can beat the Houston Texans next week.
Two NFC South competitors could’ve worked towards Dallas’ goal, but the Carolina Panthers (now 8-8) lost at home to Seattle, while the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (now 7-9) fell to the Dolphins in Miami.
Top 3 Cowboys set for free agency who shouldn’t be re-signed- Randy Gurzi, Sports Illustrated
Sometimes the best action is no action.
Donovan Wilson, S
As much as the linebacker corps has been an issue for Dallas, the secondary has been worse. The cornerbacks haven’t been able to keep up with opposing receivers, especially when it comes to the deep ball. What’s worse is the noticeable absence of safety help on the deep passes.
One player who has been especially problematic in pass defense is Donovan Wilson. The veteran safety has a coverage grade of 39.6, per PFF, which is 94th out of 99 ranked safeties. A former sixth-round pick in 2019, Wilson developed into a contributor for Dallas, but it’s time to get younger and more athletic at the position.
Cowboys’ third-round pick is raising more questions than answers right now – Jared A’Latorre, The Landry Hat
A lot of question marks remain as the 2025 season comes to a close.
Revel Jr. may have the upside Cowboys fans raved about, but he’s also fresh off a major injury, and Dallas supporters may have held out too much optimism when he was activated. Teams have started to pick on him in coverage, and he’s made a lot of poor tackle attempts in his seven appearances.
After the game, Brian Schottenheimer revealed that Revel is in concussion protocol. Next Sunday’s finale against the Giants would represent more reps for the developing rookie, but the Cowboys might be better off shutting him down so he enters the offseason with a clean bill of health. It can’t be overstated that he didn’t have a full offseason after being drafted.
Regardless, the Cowboys may look at their 2026 draft board as if Revel Jr. doesn’t exist. With DaRon Bland enduring a difficult season and now undergoing another foot surgery, and Trevon Diggs looking likely to leave, the cornerback room needs a lot of work. Not to mention, 2024 fifth-round pick Caelen Carson might follow Diggs out the door.
Dallas Scored 94 Times on 1,036 Plays: 3 Facts Cowboys Fans Need – Cody Warren, Inside The Star
Time to start reflecting on the season.
The Cowboys Lead the League in Plays
We know the Dallas Cowboys run a lot of plays. By this I mean the 1,066 plays are the most by a team in the NFL.
When I first saw the Cowboys score once every 11 plays, on average, I like most fans, and thought to myself, is that good enough? Does that feel like the offense we’re watching every week?
The answer depends on what kind of offense you think Dallas is trying to be.
Because here’s the thing: Dallas doesn’t play like the league’s sprint offenses. They don’t live on 70-yard swings and highlight reels.
This team scores by stacking correct decisions. It is a drive-sustaining offense built on rhythm, timing, and efficiency. When Dak Prescott is in a groove, it looks like a surgeon working in progression, not a roulette wheel spinning.
We have all watched Dak control pace, manipulate safeties, and take the completions the defense gives him.
We’ve watched CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens turn leverage into separation, and we have witnessed Jake Ferguson become one of the most reliable middle-of-the-field tight ends in the NFC.
Even the offensive line, needless to say, a patchwork offensive line, has given Dak just enough time to keep the gameplay intact.
Bengals fans believe they already won the Logan Wilson trade – RJ Ochoa, Blogging The Boys
It might be a tad premature to tell.
It would appear that Cincinnati Bengals fans do not feel this way. Our friends at Cincy Jungle recently published a post where they declared that the Bengals are already the “clear winners” in the Logan Wilson trade.
Much has been made about how Wilson was benched by the Bengals. It feels like we can all conclude that they likely “benched” him at least in part due to the fact that they were working on trading him. Calling it an outright benching as if it was purely based on skill/talent/performance feels a bit like a reach.
