Santa Claus is coming to town and before we know it we will be ushering in a new year. And for teams like the Dallas Cowboys who have already been eliminated from the playoffs, the off-season preparation is starting earlier than many of us would like. Then again, maybe the timing isn’t that bad after all.
With the Cowboys early elimination from the postseason already confirmed, we still have time to get in our wish list for the organization to Santa. A little Christmas magic could be exactly what the Cowboys need after yet another disappointing season, which is why we decided to put our wish list out there for you to enjoy.
*Disclaimer – As per typical wish rules, we only had three to work with.
Wish #1 – Matt Eberflus out, Jim Leonhard in
The writing is already on the wall Matt Eberflus won’t be returning as the Cowboys defensive coordinator in 2026. That means the search for the new DC is likely already underway. There will be a lot of names tossed around, but the one we’re wishing comes to fruition is Jim Leonhard’s. He’s one of the young, up-and-coming defensive coaches in the league and is highly regarded. But, that more than likely means he will be in high demand. Jerry Jones may have to open up his pocketbook to recruit him to Dallas, but he’d be well worth it.
Wish #2 – Lock up George Pickens early
There’s nothing more frustrating than having to sit through the Dallas Cowboys drawing out contract negotiations with almost all of their star players in recent years. By drawing things out these tactics have done more harm than good over the years, costing them more money than it likely would have had if they work things out much earlier. That doesn’t need to be the case with George Pickens. All parties concerned seem to want to get the deal done and there’s no reason not to get the deal done sooner rather than later, especially with Santa’s help.
Wish #3 – Draft LB/DE Arvell Reese
Arvell Reese is arguably the best player in the entire 2026 draft class and will likely be long gone by the time the Cowboys on the clock. But, this is a Christmas wish list after all and maybe Santa can work his magic and somehow allow the Ohio State LB/DE to slide right in their laps. They desperately need help at both the LB and DE positions and he would be an immediate impact player at either. At 6’4”, 243 pounds, he’s been compared to Micah Parsons and could help improve Dallas’ defense in a similar manner from the get-go.
