The Dallas Cowboys pulled off an all-time win on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.
After falling down 21-0 everything seemed grim. The Thanksgiving conversations we are all destined for were already annoying. How could the Cowboys come out so flat against the Eagles?
Maybe the reason to come out flat was to set the stage for the ultimate second act. It was a total team effort as the Cowboys defense led the way, the offense did their part, and the special teams came up with clutch moments to tie it all together. It all came on the day that Dak Prescott became the franchise’s all-time passing leader which added to the lore that the day will hold.
The Cowboys officially went undefeated at home in 2025 against division rivals and got back to .500 on the season with a 5-5-1 record. Playoff hopes remain faint, but they exist which is the point. A loss would have been devastating in that capacity and now our hearts can keep on fluttering while we dream.
Serious kudos and credit to the entire Cowboys organization for fighting through, rallying, and never giving up.
They all earned this one. Every single bit of it.
First Quarter
The Eagles won the toss and deferred. Offense was officially up first for the Cowboys.
While the first moments seemed like things were going to click they quickly got tenuous as Dallas was facing a 4th and 3 from their midfield. Brian Schottenheimer went for it and Dak Prescott was unable to connect with Javonte Williams.
Unfortunately the Eagles made good on the short field position as they marched down and capped it off with a touchdown from Jalen Hurts to AJ Brown.
SCORE: COWBOYS 0, EAGLES 7 (Jalen Hurts to AJ Brown touchdown)
Dallas took over again and in a hole for the first time on the game. That did not exactly inspire much as they went three and out before punting the ball away.
Kudos to the defense for stepping up when called up as they went out and made quick work of their next opportunity by forcing a punt. Unfortunately the Cowboys ran into the punter and got his plant leg so the personal foul gave Philly new life.
Making matters all the more frustrating the Cowboys defense was called for an offsides when they had gotten the Eagles offense off of it once more. You simply cannot give a team like this that many chances and they proved it by cashing in on a Jalen Hurts rushing touchdown.
SCORE: COWBOYS 0, EAGLES 14 (Jalen Hurts rushing touchdown)
The Cowboys held the ball and were preparing for third down as the first quarter came to an end.
Second Quarter
Early in the second quarter Dak Prescott found CeeDee Lamb for a big gain. Originally it looked like CeeDee fumbled after the catch, but replay quickly showed that his arm was well down.
Never fear! KaVontae Turpin took a handoff out of the backfield on the very next play and very clearly fumbled. Ball don’t lie? That doesn’t work here, but neither does this football team.
The Eagles looked to be in a bind as they were facing 3rd and 12 and the prospect of punting for the first time. Jalen Hurts found DeVonta Smith though, and soon enough he found the endzone by way of a tush push.
SCORE: COWBOYS 0, EAGLES 21 (Jalen Hurts rushing touchdown)
The Cowboys offense put up a bit of fight on their next possession as they did all they could to try to get something positive out of what was happening.
George Pickens was involved. Jake Ferguson had a nice gain. Dallas got down right up against the goal line and unfortunately Tyler Guyton had a false start. Another awful penalty.
That proved to be disastrous as right after Dak Prescott threw a horrible interception when looking for CeeDee Lamb in the endzone.
Interestingly the FOX broadcast speculated after they came back from commercial that Tyler Guyton may have been baited into jumping by an Eagles player. That is pretty hard to prove.
Anyways the Cowboys finally forced an Eagles punt and appeared ready to finally make this the opportunity where they got on the board. A big conversion from Prescott to KaVontae Turpin helped make that all the more possible.
It turns out this was the drive. Dak Prescott found George Pickens for the score with 21 seconds left in the half.
SCORE: COWBOYS 7, EAGLES 21 (Dak Prescott to George Pickens touchdown)
That was about it. Halftime.
Third Quarter
The Eagles began the second half with the ball and went three and out which set the Cowboys up for a chance to really make things interesting.
While the Cowboys wounded up punting the ball themselves they did not do so before Dak Prescott became the franchise’s all-time passing leader. Congratulations to him.
The defense deserves credit for getting another stop. While it took until a second down for them to do so, they ultimately did before Philly even reached midfield. It gave the Cowboys a 14-point deficit with over 9 minutes left in the third quarter for full context.
While the Cowboys did begin to move they ultimately ran into a wall and had to settle for a field goal. No big deal, Brandon Aubrey, right?
Unfortunately this was one of those times as Aubrey missed left from 51 yards out and the Cowboys remained down by 14 points.
Give credit to the defense again though as they forced yet another Philly punt. This was the second time that the Eagles went three and out in their three second-half possessions on top of that.
The dam finally broke, though. Dak Prescott found CeeDee Lamb for a HUGE gain that put the Cowboys within striking distance and shortly after he found Brevyn Spann-Ford for the score!
The Eagles were moving the ball as the third quarter ended.
Fourth Quarter
Some penalties made the Eagles possession a weird one, but they were able to get into field goal range nonetheless. Eagles kicker Jake Elliott’s season-long was from 58 yards out so with this being a 56-yard attempt it seemed pretty easy.
NO GOOD!
Almost immediately Dak Prescott found George Pickens for a huge gain that put the Cowboys in serious business. Shortly after… Dak took care of things himself!
SCORE: COWBOYS 21, EAGLES 21 (Dak Prescott rushing touchdown)
The Eagles were moving and appeared very comfortable despite everything that had just happened.
It was then that Saquon Barkley got too comfortable as Sam Williams got to him and punched the ball loose.
This was the first time the Cowboys held the ball with a chance to take the lead since the game’s opening possession. To say it was surreal would be being rather light.
The Cowboys wound up punting which felt like such a bummer given all of the momentum. Alijah Clark made everything whole though by forcing another fumble and Trent Sieg recovered it!
While things were solid for a moment they turned ominous when CeeDee Lamb dropped a would-be touchdown on third down. Dallas elected to go for it, but they were unable to capitalize and turned the ball over on downs.
The Eagles were (thankfully) unable to get anything done on the next possession and decided to punt the ball away which gave the Cowboys the ball with 95 seconds left.
That was enough. The Cowboys got into field goal range and Brandon Aubrey did the rest.
Victory!!!!
