The Dallas Cowboys stand alone. Through Caleb Williams’ year and change in the NFL (he was the first overall pick last year) he had gone all of time without playing a clean game.
What exactly do we mean by clean, you ask? Well, Williams had never played a game without being sacked. And then the Dallas Cowboys landed in Chicago.
Sunday marked the first game that Caleb has played in the NFL without being sacked a single time. It was only his 20th game to be fair, but consider that 19 other defenses all found a way to get home.
This is a pretty big indictment of the Cowboys defense if we are being honest. Williams has been a quarterback still viewed as figuring the game out prior to Sunday. He played an incredible game in that he wasn’t sacked obviously, his offensive line and blockers in general should all get some kudos too, but he also tied a career high with four touchdown passes thrown.
These accomplishments from Williams came one week after Dallas revived the career of Russell Wilson, even if for one Sunday afternoon. Consider that the clock clearly struck midnight on Wilson’s game as he was nowhere near the same passer on Sunday night against Kansas City and that Williams obviously hadn’t been one of that quality prior to playing the Cowboys.
We may be on the verge of seeing the Cowboys defense allow opposing quarterbacks to have days like this in different varieties all season long. Hopefully that is not the case.
